There are a lot of GBA games and demo's that attempt 3D on the system. Quake 1 Demo (there are many quake 1 demos for the GBA): Here's some random examples of GBA games that use the ARM's inherent floating point capabilities: the ARM CPU in the GBA is very capable of producing rexrured map polygons and 3D, and it is a huge leap over the SNES's SuperFX chips. As far as polygon rendering and sprite scaling goes, I think the GBA falls somewhere behind the 32x and 3D0 hardware.
